Deacon Anthony Viola

Deacon Viola was born in the Bronx, NY and attended Evander Childs High School.  In 1995, after a 35-year hiatus, he completed his BS in Management Information Systems.  Currently, Deacon Viola has a full time job working as a Facility Manager for an International apparel company.

Deacon Viola began his Deaconal studies at St. Joseph’s Seminary (Yonkers) in 1994 and on June 6, 1998 was ordained a Permanent Deacon, by John Cardinal O’Connor.  He was immediately assigned to Immaculate Conception/Assumption Churches where he continues to serve as “The Deacon”.

The call to Holy Orders for Deacon Anthony was fostered initially - in 1985, when Deacon Anthony and his wife Cathie were invited to a Cursillo weekend experience.  Subsequently, over the years, Monsignor Maltese guided Deacon Anthony and his family through several years of discernment and prayer regarding the Deaconate. Monsignor Case, who vested Deacon Anthony at his Ordination, was also very influential in his spiritual development as a Deacon.  Currently, Monsignor Oliverio is adding another dimension to the role of Deacon.  Under the guidance of Monsignor Oliverio, Deacon Anthony has obtained his Preaching Faculties, which permits Deacon Anthony to not only proclaim the Gospel, but also give a homily at the Sunday Liturgies.

Some of Deacon Anthony’s other duties are: Moderator of Cornerstone, Team member of the Enthronement to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, RCIA catechist, Minister of Marriage, Minister Of Baptism, Funerals, Pastoral Counseling, Hospital Visitations, Sick calls …

Deacon Anthony indicates that he is so fortunate to have the Diaconate integrated into his life.
