Deacon Anthony Viola

Deacon Viola was born in the Bronx and attended Evander Childs High School. In 1995, after a 35-year hiatus, he completed his BS in Management - Information Systems. Currently, Deacon Viola has a full time job working as a Facility Manager for an International apparel company.

Deacon Viola began his Deaconal studies at St. Joseph’s Seminary (Yonkers) in 1994 and on June 6, 1998 was ordained a Permanent Deacon by John Cardinal O’Connor. He was immediately assigned to Assumption and Immaculate Conception parishes where he continues to serve as "The Deacon". The call to Holy Orders for Deacon Anthony was fostered initially in 1985, when he was invited to a Cursillo weekend experience. Monsignor Maltese guided Deacon Anthony and his family through several years of discernment and prayer regarding the Deaconate. Monsignor Case, who vested Deacon Anthony at his Ordination, was also very influential in his spiritual development as a Deacon. In addition, Monsignor Oliverio added another dimension to the role of Deacon. Under the guidance of Monsignor Oliverio, Deacon Viola has obtained his Preaching Faculties, which permits Deacon Anthony to not only proclaim the Gospel, but also give a homily at the Sunday Liturgies.

Some of Deacon Anthony’s other duties are: RCIA catechist, Minister of Marriage, Minister of Baptism, Funerals, Pastoral Counseling, Hospital Visitations, and Sick calls. Deacon Anthony indicates that he is fortunate to have the Diaconate integrated into his life.
