Monsignor Francis E. Oliverio

On October 4, 1999 Monsignor Francis E. Oliverio was installed as pastor of the Assumption and Immaculate Conception Churches.  Monsignor Oliverio had been coordinator of the Archdiocesan Office of Evangelization since 1996.  He was pastor of St. Ann’s parish in Ossining from 1981 to 1995 and was on sabbatical at the Institute of Continuing Education at the North American College in Rome before assuming the Evangelization post.  From 1957 to 1963 he was chaplain at St. Agatha’s Home in Nanuet.  He also served in the Bronx at St. Francis of Assisi, St. Lucy’s and St. Joseph’s parishes.

Monsignor Oliverio studied at Cathedral College in Manhattan and St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie was ordained on June 2, 1956.  He studied Spanish at Georgetown University in Washington, D. C. and holds a Masters degree in Pastoral Counseling from Iona College in New Rochelle and a Professional Diploma in Counseling from St. John’s University.

Cardinal O’Connor appointed Monsignor Oliverio pastor of the Assumption and Immaculate Conception in June, 1999.  In his statements after his appointment Monsignor Oliverio commented on how very, very happy and grateful he was for his appointment by Cardinal O’Connor.  Referring to his new parishioners, he added,  “I see people filled with enthusiasm and commitment, and their worship in the liturgy bespeaks of great faith”.

During his time as pastor, Monsignor initiated a capital campaign at Assumption parish to address needed repairs and renovations.  He attributes the success of that campaign to the generous cooperation and support of Assumption parishioners.

At Immaculate Conception Parish, Monsignor worked with parishioners and an architect to develop a site plan.  As the first step of that plan, we witnessed the complete reconstruction of two shrines: one to our patroness, the Blessed Mother, and the other celebrating the redemptive love of Christ.  In each case, reconstruction has come as a result of the generous gift of a parishioner.

Monsignor Oliverio has always been very enthusiastic about the spirituality aspect of the church.  His dedication to “reaching out and touching everyone” was a goal that he has set for both parish families.
