CONSTITUTION
Article I
Name of Organization
Parish Council of the Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe, New York
Article II
Purpose
Cooperation with and advice to the Pastor with respect to any matters relating to the temporal and spiritual well-being of the Parish.
To stimulate active participation of all parishioners and provide a vehicle whereby the witness of the Christian layperson may be made more readily available to the Church of today.
To bring together the Parish family - priests, religious and laity - in a spirit of trust and cooperation to study the needs of the Parish and the local Roman Catholic Christian Community and help to resolve their problems by common deliberation and common action.
Article III
Functions and Responsibilities
The Parish Council shall be an advisory body whose recommendations become policy when ratified by the Pastor.
Article IV
Membership
The Parish Council shall consist of twelve (12) elected members and other designated members to include the Pastor, Associate Pastor(s), School Principal, Director of Religious Education, Chairman of the Finance Committee and a Teen-aged representative designated by the Pastor.
Any registered member of the Immaculate Conception Parish who has reached the age of eighteen (18) years may be duly elected to the Parish Council.
A registered member of the Parish is one who receives regular mail from the rectory or one who uses the envelope system. As confirmed by
In addition, any member of a family who is eighteen (18) years of age or older, living at the same address as his/her registered parents, will qualify as a registered member of the Parish.
Article V
Officers & Their Election
The Council members shall elect a chairperson, vice-chairperson and recording secretary annually at the organizational meeting from among the voting members.
Article VI
Time & Place of Regular Meetings
The regular monthly meeting of the Council shall take place on the first Monday of each month at a place designated by the chairperson. The chairperson, with Council approval, may cancel any monthly meeting.
Council meetings shall be held monthly or at any other special time as called by the chairperson, provided all members are given two (2) days advance notice.
Article VII
Means of Amending the Constitution
This Constitution can be amended at any regular meeting by a majority of the total voting members present, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting.
Article VIII
Adoption of Constitution
This Constitution was adopted on the 5th day of January, 1987.
