Five Years Later and Going Strong
Although Saturday resembled a scene from "Singing in the Rain," we all had great fun. Screams of delight and shouts of laughter resounded all over the 10 acres.
On behalf of the staff and students at Immaculate Conception School, I thank all the great volunteers who helped us at the carnival. You were so kind and so many, a real tribute to our parish. Your children had a great time and the good spirit shown was wonderful.
We at Immaculate Conception School are indebted to you for your generosity and hard work. Without your continued support, we would not be so successful.
Kudos to Terry Rodesky and her team of volunteers! A special thanks to Monsignor Oliverio for his support and bravery (he rode the Ali Baba!)

Where are you going, my friend?
Well, let’s see.
If you are in grade 1, it’s the farm;
grade 2, the science museum;
pre-kindergarten and kindergarten are going to the theater;
grade 3, the aquarium;
grade 4, the Intrepid and waterway cruise;
grade 5, the museum; and
the Junior High is headed toward Mystic and a Harbor Cruise later in June.
All this in May! Are you ever in school? Of course we are, and we must study first to attend a trip.
"What a place to be!" said one Concordia student teacher,
while another exclaimed how friendly and professional a place to be.
It is the atmosphere and quality of program
that brought Concordia College students to Immaculate Conception School.
The training is top notch.
Grade 3 students took a walk on Arbor Day to attend the Tuckahoe Arbor Day celebration.
All the students returned with a lovely plant they received at the ceremony.
During Holy Week, Fr. Fallon led our Junior High students in the Stations of the Cross.
Our students, in costume, enacted the Way of the Cross for all.
Four students just returned from the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. Daniel:
Altenau, Jaclyn Doino, John O’Halloran, and Russell Schneider
are filled with stories regarding this program, which prepares future leaders for America!
The staff just returned from a faculty meeting held at the Bronx Zoo
and they are eagerly planning trips for next year.

Science

Congratulations to the ICS seventh and eighth grade Science Olympiad team!
In their first year of competitions, with only a few weeks of preparation and study time,
they managed to score 8th place out of 23 teams at the regional competition at
Seventh graders Joseph Bonica & Russell Schneider
took home second place medals in the Fossils competition, and
eighth grader L’Oreal DeMatteis and seventh grader Gabriela Gutierrez won second place in the Write It...Do It event.
Students Support Missionary Work
In honor of Catholic Schools Week, students of the Christian Service Club handmade
over 100 Rosaries to help missionaries teach the important events in the life of Jesus.
The missionaries use the Rosary because it is a simple, useful, and effective way of
explaining the life and times of Jesus.
Students were instructed by Mr. Joseph Mazzaro, who taught the students the rosary-making craft and provided most of the supplies that were needed for the project. Our thanks to Mr. Mazzaro.
The Christian Service Club is an after-school program in which the students work on projects
that transform the words of Christ into action.
Taking the words of Christ from Mark 16:15,
"Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature,"
the students decided to learn how to make Rosaries and to make them for the missions.
Though the students realize that they cannot personally go to the missions at this stage in their lives, they know that support of the missions is important and
something that they can do to help spread the Gospel message.
Students Help the Retired and Infirm
Students at Immaculate Conception School made special celebration baskets for Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day. These baskets were sent to the retired and infirm Sisters of St. Francis at the mother house.
