When babies are baptized, their parents choose their name(s) and godparents. Sometimes, names are chose because the parents simply liked the names. Often, names are selected in keeping with family traditions. One such tradition has the first son being named after the paternal grandfather, the second son being named after the maternal grandfather, and the third son being named after the father. Similarly, the first daughter might be named after the maternal grandmother, and so on. Another tradition is to name the first son after the father and to use the Junior designation, or to use an ordinal number if there were several generations of family members with the same name. In the Jewish tradition, children are often named after deceased relatives.
The candidate for confirmation has the opportunity to determine his/her own confirmation name. The name should be of a Saint who would serve as a role model for the candidate. This WebQuest was designed to help candidates to do research and produce a report on the Saint whose name will be used at confirmation.
"Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach
and your actions speak."
