The Eighth Grade

Students in their second year of preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation

Eighth grade students in the Parish School of Religion attend class on Tuesday nights from 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Upon entering the eighth grade, students have already completed their first of two years of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  This year will culminate in the receipt of the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring.

In addition to passing a special test showing they have prepared themselves for the reception of Confirmation, students will be required to attend Mass, complete their classroom work, and demonstrate a desire to fully participate in the Church community.  Students must also complete twenty hours of community service and submit a form signed by appropriate service organizations.  The Service Hours form is available in Microsoft Excel format and a list of local service organizations is available.  Students will also be choosing a confirmation name and submitting a report on the saint whose name they have chosen.

To assist students in their preparation, this web site includes a Saint Report WebQuest designed to guide students through the research and writing process of their report, as well as a Confirmation Test Study Guide.

Students will also select a confirmation sponsor, who must become familiar with the role of the sponsor and have a sponsor form completed by a priest in his/her home parish.
