| What is a sacrament? |
A sacrament is a holy encounter (meeting) with God, which
gives us the grace needed to help us lead better lives. The sacraments
were given to us by Jesus Christ. |
How many sacraments are there?
Name and define them. |
There are seven sacraments: |
| Baptism |
We receive a new life of sanctifying grace, are freed from original
sin and become members of the Christian community. |
| Confirmation |
The Holy Spirit comes to us in a special way to join us more closely
to Jesus and His Church. We are strengthened to become adult witnesses
of the Christian Catholic Church. |
| Holy Eucharist |
We share the sacrifice of Christ's body and blood and our redemption.
Through it we are strengthened for our journey in life. To receive
Holy Communion properly, one must be free from all serious sins.
One must also abstain from all solid foods one hour before receipt of Holy
Communion. |
Reconciliation
(Penance or Confession) |
We receive God's mercy and forgiveness when we confess our guilt due
to sin. We make a fresh start in our life with God and limit the
punishment of our sinful actions. |
| Anointing of the Sick |
Gives strength to the soul and body when we are seriously ill. |
| Holy Orders |
Chosen men are given the grace and power to minister as deacons, priests,
and bishops. |
| Matrimony |
The joining of a Christian woman and man who are committed to each
other for life in union with God and the Holy Spirit. |
